German Federal Elections 2025

For the fourth time in the history of the Republic, the Bundestag is elected early. Previously, the dismissal of the Minister of Finance had initiated the final act of the ‘traffic light’ coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP, which was launched in 2021 as a ‘progressive coalition’. The initial situation of the election, for which the parties and authorities now have to pave the way in the shortest possible time, can hardly be surpassed in terms of drama: While the CDU/CSU is clearly in the lead according to the polls, the FDP is worried about re-entering parliament and the BSW offers a new election option, the Social Democrats have to fight for second place with the AfD.
