Description
Elections in Türkiye will be held on 14 May, just over three months after the devastating earthquake in early February that killed approximately 50,000 people. Nearly two million people lost their homes in the disaster. Voters will choose the country’s president and the composition of its parliament.
An alliance of six opposition parties is putting CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroğlu into the race against incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. His re-election is considered uncertain. The votes of the pro-Kurdish HDP could again determine the majority in the Ankara parliament – it is considered the “kingmaker”.
