Description
Finland will elect a new parliament on 2 April. It is an event far from its own borders that is likely to influence this vote: Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has also raised concerns in the EU’s northernmost country. The parliament had voted by a large majority in favour of joining NATO. Whether the centre-left government of Prime Minister Sanna Marin, the world’s youngest head of government when she took office in 2019, will continue in its current composition despite this change of course is uncertain. Polls show the opposition conservatives narrowly ahead of Marin’s Social Democrats.
